Councils have a duty to ensure that the public walkways, roads and car parks are properly maintained and safe for you to use. Sometimes they fail in their duties and if you suffer an injury as a result of this neglect then you may be entitled to compensation.

Your employer has a duty to provide you with a safe working environment. If they fail to do this then you can claim compensatiion from them

Public Liability Claims

Every shop, pub, restaurant and public place has public liability insurance. This means that if you have an accident on their premises and this was due to them failing to take proper care, then you may be able to claim compensation from them.

What You Can Claim

There are 2 main ways in which you can claim money.

General Damages

You can claim money for your pain and suffering. How much money you will get will depend on the extent of your injuries and how long you were injured for.

Special Damages

This is money that you can claim back for expenses that you incurred as a result of your accident. For example, if you were off work and didn't get paid, you can claim back your loss of earnings or your prescription charges. Providing you keep your receipts and you can prove your loss, it is often possible to get your money back.
